Updates from the Library!
admin November 3rd, 2009
1. This month the Library is running a trial of ebrary–an electronic books collection for community colleges. This is a collection of nearly 20,000 online books covering all NSCC academic disciplines including Nursing and Allied health, Computer Technology, Business, Criminal Justice, College Success, Testing Guides and Career information. What’s so cool about this product?
Unlimited number of simultaneous users
Text to speech capabilities
No special reader needed
Books can be highlighted and electronic notes can be made
Books can be saved to a personal bookshelf in a number of different folders–history paper, literature paper, etc.
Items cut and pasted automatically come with the full citation in whatever format is selected–MLA, APA.
Faculty using Angel can save persistent URLS to books or chapters of books for required reading for classes–cutting down on the need to purchase textbooks
Supports the green initiative
The link can be found on www.northshore.edu/library. Look for ebrary. Any questions? Please talk to the librarians. We’re pretty excited about this and hope that you will take a look at it!
2. The office of the Community College Counsel is putting together a comprehensive policy on Intellectual Property–or as we know it the Copyright Policy. This will be for all of the community colleges to follow. It is in the draft stages now and once it is ready, I’ll let the committee know. FYI–they are using the NSCC and Mt. Wachusett policies as the models to follow. Yea us!
