Beginning with the fall 2007 semester North Shore Community College is introducing Microsoft Office 2007 in all of its computer labs and smart classrooms.
Office 2007’s new menu system presents a marked change from the familiar pull-down interface that has been the hallmark of the Office Suite for the last ten years. Ventolin syrup analysis, Dubbed “The Ribbon” this new interface is free flowing and dynamic, offering users such features as real time formatting and paragraph spacing previews, contextual menus and a customizable tool bar that allows for quick access to favorite tools. “The ribbon is really very intuitive,” says Jeff Wardwell, the school’s Lab Supervisor. “After maybe five minutes I had the hang of it and could find the things I was looking for. I think people will like it.”
The switch to Office 2007 means the familiar Office 2003 is no longer available in labs and smart classrooms. “There are some compatibility issues that make it impossible to install them concurrently,” asserts Wardwell. Along those lines the college community should be aware that older versions of Microsoft Office will not be able to open files saved in Office 2007’s native file format. Users of Office 97-2003 are encouraged to download a “compatibility pack” to help alleviate this problem. To help facilitate the download the college’s Information Services department has placed an easy to access “Office 2007 Resources” link on Pipeline, under the My Courses tab. The compatibility download is free and can be installed in just a few minutes.
Additionally the IS department has configured all of the lab and smart classroom computers to save Office 2007 files as “97-2003” compatible. “The hope” states Jeff Bickford, generic for ventolin hfa inhaler, Side effects of ventolin, Director of Networking/Telecomm and User Services, “is that we can make this as smooth a transition as possible and get out in front of problems before they occur.”
In anticipation of questions surrounding Office 2007 the IS department has scheduled two introductory training sessions for faculty and staff. The first will be held on Wednesday September 12 from 3-4PM in the Health Professions and Science building, ventolin inhaler, Ventolin inhaler overdose, room 121. The second training session will be held on September 13th from 2-3PM in Lynn, room LW303. Faculty and staff who are interested in attending should RSVP to jwardwel@northshore.edu.
