Standing Committee Operating Policies & Procedures

  • Appointments/elections for each academic year will be made in April of the preceding year.
  • Members may serve on only one standing committee.
  • A Chairperson will be elected for the next academic year at a special May meeting.  The Chairperson will be ineligible to serve as the Committee’s representative to the College Coordinating Council.  The Chairperson may serve a maximum of three consecutive one-year terms.
  • The Chairperson will receive compensation for service as appropriate.  For example, a full-time faculty member will receive a one-course adjustment in assigned activities, or its equivalent, per semester.  Others will receive an adjustment in assigned activities of at least six (6) hours per week to perform the duties required of the chair.  The College will provide appropriate support to the staff member’s department to ensure that job responsibilities of that staff member are accomplished.
  • The representative to the College Coordinating Council will be elected at the special May meeting for a one-year term.  The person elected must be a full-time College employee and must have served at least one year as a member of the committee.  The representative will receive compensation for service as appropriate.  For example, a full-time faculty member will receive a one-course adjustment in assigned activities, or its equivalent, per semester (Changed by vote to per year at 5-02 faculty/staff meeting).  Others will receive an adjustment in assigned activities of at least six (6) hours per week to perform the duties required of the representative.  The College will provide appropriate support to the staff member’s department to ensure that job responsibilities of that staff member are accomplished.
  • If membership requires a part-time faculty representative, that person will receive the equivalent of a one-course stipend for one year of service.
  • Meetings will be conducted utilizing Robert’s Rules
  • Staff will be provided to take minutes at each meeting.  (This service has been dropped due to staff reductions—the taking of minutes is to be rotated by volunteers from the membership.)   Minutes will be posted on the Administrative Intranet.
  • The agenda will be sent to members’ one week before meetings, and will be posted on the Administrative Intranet.
  • Recommendations will be forwarded to the appropriate group/individual with copies to members of the College Coordinating Council.  Recommendations will be posted on the Administrative Intranet.
  • Meetings will be scheduled monthly during the academic year.
